Whether you can schedule a post in a Facebook group depends on who you are in it. According to guides that describe the feature, admins and moderators can schedule a post inside the group's own composer, and ordinary members cannot. A scheduling tool is a different matter: Meta removed its Groups API on 22 April 2024, so no scheduler can publish to a group for you any more. This page separates the two cases.
Who can schedule and where
| Who | Native schedule in the group | Through a tool's API |
|---|---|---|
| Group admin or moderator | Reported by guides, via the clock or *Schedule* option next to the Post button | No |
| Ordinary member | Not offered, according to the same guides | No |
| A Page posting into a group | Not through a tool | No |
We could not read Meta's own help page on group scheduling, so the middle column is what guides describe and not a verified statement. The last column rests on Meta's change log: the permission publish_to_groups was removed on 22 April 2024.
What this means for a scheduler
Preflight publishes to Facebook Pages and does not publish to groups. A tool that says it can post to groups is either relying on a workaround, such as a reminder that asks you to confirm the post by hand, or on something other than Meta's API, and an account used that way can be restricted. The safe options are these:
- Schedule in the group if you are an admin or moderator, using the group's own option. Scheduled items are reported to sit under the group's admin tools, where they can be edited or removed.
- Post from a Page to its own feed on a schedule and share it into the group by hand. The Page post is the part a tool can do, and it works on every plan.
- Keep a calendar reminder for the group post when you are not an admin.
What to keep in mind
- A post scheduled by a group admin is the admin's, and the group's rules about links and promotion apply as usual.
- A Page's post does not appear in a group on its own; sharing it is a manual step.
- The limits of the Page post itself are on the Facebook limits page.
For the Page side, how to schedule Facebook posts lists what a Page post can hold, and the Facebook integration page shows how to connect one. Scheduling to a personal profile is a separate question with a similar answer.
Group scheduling by admins is as described by third-party guides, not confirmed from Meta's help pages. The removal of the Groups API on 22 April 2024 is from Meta's documentation, as cited on the Facebook scheduling page.
