Facebook post limits: 63,206 characters, photos, Reels

A Facebook Page post takes 63,206 characters, 10 photos of 10 MB, a 1 GB video and Reels of 3 to 90 seconds at 24 to 60 fps. What gets dropped silently.

A Facebook Page post can be 63,206 characters, so text length is not the limit that fails; pictures and video are. Ten photos of up to 10 MB each, a video of up to 1 GB through the API, and a separate set of rules for Reels and stories decide whether a scheduled post goes out as planned. This page covers posts to Facebook Pages.

    Text

    Limit
    Post text63,206 characters
First commentSupported, posted with the post
    Edit after publishingAllowed
    DeleteAllowed

Facebook shows the first few lines of a long post and folds the rest behind "See more", so the practical limit is where the post folds, not 63,206. The caption preview shows where.

    Photos

    Rule
    Photos per postUp to 10
FormatsJPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP and TIFF
    Size10 MB each
Larger photosA copy at up to 2,048 pixels on the long side
Animated GIFRefused as a picture: post it as a video
    HEICConverted to JPEG on upload
    Alt textSupported per photo

Facebook is handed each file as a link and pulls it, so the file has to be reachable for that moment, which Preflight arranges.

    Video

    Rule
SizeUp to 1 GB as Preflight sends it
Length20 minutes is Meta's figure for an upload made this way; longer gets a warning, not a refusal
Pictures and video togetherThe post keeps only the first kind: send a video and three pictures and the pictures are not sent

Facebook itself accepts far larger uploads, up to 10 GB, but only through a resumable upload that this route does not use, so 10 GB here would pass files Facebook refuses. The 20-minute figure is older than the rest, which is why it is a warning: a false refusal costs more than a warning.

    Reels and stories

    Rule
Reel shapeVertical, at least 540 by 960 pixels; 9:16 is shown, wider is cropped or shown with bars
Reel frame rate24 to 60 fps
    Reel length3 to 90 seconds
Story video3 to 60 seconds, up to 100 MB
StoryOne picture or one video; only the first file is sent

The same vertical file that works for a Facebook Reel usually also passes Instagram Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts; the combination is in one vertical video for four networks.

    After publishing

Facebook reports views, likes, comments and shares, and views, watch time and average view duration for a video. Comments can be read, answered, hidden, liked and deleted, and a Page may remove anyone's comment from its own post.

    Facebook next to the others

Where Instagram caps a caption at 2,200 and 30 hashtags, a Facebook post has no practical text limit, so a caption written for Instagram always fits. How to connect Pages is on the Facebook integration page, and scheduling is described on how to schedule Facebook posts. All twelve networks are on the limits page. Facebook is one channel on any plan, the free one included.

Figures from the Meta Graph API as Preflight enforces them, checked 29 October 2026.

    Questions people ask

What is the Facebook post character limit?
63,206 characters for a Page post. In practice the post folds behind "See more" after a few lines, so what matters is the first part.
How many photos can a Facebook post have?
Up to 10, as JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP or TIFF, 10 MB each. An animated GIF is refused as a picture; post it as a video.
How long can a Facebook video be through the API?
Meta documents 20 minutes and 1 GB for a video uploaded the way a scheduler sends it. A longer one gets a warning in Preflight rather than a refusal.
What are the rules for a Facebook Reel?
Vertical video of at least 540 by 960 pixels, 3 to 90 seconds, at 24 to 60 fps. Wider than 9:16 is cropped or shown with bars.
Why were my pictures not posted with my video on Facebook?
A Facebook post takes pictures or one video, not both, and keeps only the first kind. Post them separately.

Write it once. Let the rules be our problem.

Preflight checks every post against each network's rules before it leaves, then publishes it to twelve networks. Free plan, no card.
