Preflight vs Postiz: hosted scheduler against open source

Postiz and Preflight both publish to Discord, Telegram, Bluesky and Mastodon and both have an API and MCP server. Where they differ: hosting, price, validation, video and AI.

Postiz and Preflight are the two schedulers that take Discord, Telegram, Mastodon and Bluesky seriously and give a developer or an assistant the same access a person has. They start from different places: Postiz is open source with a hosted service on top; Preflight is a hosted product from a Czech company with the operations already done.

    Where Postiz is ahead

    • The source. You can read it, patch it, run it on your own network. Nothing on Preflight's side matches that, and for some teams it ends the comparison.
    • Channels. Thirty-plus against twelve. If you post to Reddit, Lemmy, Nostr or Warpcast, Postiz is the only hosted option.
    • Unlimited members at $39.
    • AI media. Image and video generation, clipping. Preflight's AI writes and reviews; it does not draw.
    • Agent tooling depth. A CLI, skill files for agent frameworks, and a community that writes integrations. Postiz's growth in 2026 came from exactly this.
    • White label. Resell it under your own name.

    Where Preflight is ahead

    • Price when hosted. $13 against $39 at eight channels; $24 with three users and the API against $39.
    • The check. Preflight validates each post against each network's current rules before anything is uploaded and exposes the same check to assistants as validate_post. A 120 fps TikTok video, a PNG for Instagram, a 31-hashtag caption or a 600-byte Threads post is refused with the reason, in the composer and over the API. See the limits table.
    • Video. Resumable multipart uploads to 2 GB, and public YouTube videos uploaded early and handed to YouTube to publish at the minute, so the video is live on time even if the upload would have taken an hour.
    • No developer apps to register. Meta, TikTok, Google, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Canva reviews are done once, for everyone. Self-hosting Postiz means doing them yourself.
    • Approval links for clients who will never create an account.
    • Analytics with YouTube retention curves and traffic sources per video, and a printable monthly report.
    • Per-channel posting times, presets of accounts for agencies, and a reconnect flow that keeps a channel's history and settings.

    What they share

Discord, Telegram, Mastodon, Bluesky and Tumblr as first-class networks; threads on Bluesky, Mastodon and Threads; a public API and an MCP server; CSV import; comments on the networks that allow it; a queue and a calendar.

    Who should choose which

Choose Postiz if you want the code, need a network outside the big twelve, want unlimited seats, or resell.

Choose Preflight if you want the same community networks and agent access without running servers, want posts checked before they leave, post long or large video, or need EU hosting on paper.

    Questions people ask

    Is Preflight open source?
No. Postiz is; Preflight is a hosted service. Its API is documented and its capability sheet is public, but the code is not.
Do both have an MCP server?
Yes. Postiz's authenticates with an API key and comes with a CLI; Preflight's accepts OAuth with PKCE (so Claude Desktop connects with a URL) or an API key, and adds validate_post and a confirmation step before publishing immediately.
    Which is cheaper?
Hosted, Preflight: $13 against $39 at eight channels. Self-hosted Postiz has no licence fee but needs a server and your own developer apps on each network.

Write it once. Let the rules be our problem.

Preflight checks every post against each network's rules before it leaves, then publishes it to twelve networks. Free plan, no card.
