Preflight vs Hootsuite: $13 against $99 per user

Hootsuite bills $99 to $399 per user; Preflight $13 to $64 flat. What the small tool leaves out: listening, inbox, SSO. What it adds: checks, approvals, MCP.

Hootsuite is the tool a procurement department already knows, and for a brand with a social media team, listening, a shared inbox and enterprise permissions it earns its price. This page is for the other reader: a creator, a studio or a small agency who has been quoted $99 per user per month and wants to know what a $13 or $24 tool leaves out. Cheaper tools in general are on Hootsuite alternatives.

    Where Hootsuite is ahead

    • Listening. Keywords, sentiment, trends, and Talkwalker for the enterprise tiers. Preflight reads comments and replies; it does not listen to the rest of the internet.
    • The inbox. Messages, comments and mentions from every network in one queue with assignment and SLAs. Preflight's inbox covers comments on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Threads, Bluesky and Mastodon, without assignment.
    • Permissions. Teams, roles, organisation-level controls, SSO. Preflight has workspaces, seats and approval links.
    • X with media, WhatsApp, Google Business, LinkedIn Pages. None of the four in Preflight yet.
    • A company behind it with a help desk, certifications and a logo a client has heard of.

    Where Preflight is ahead

    • Price. At eight channels Hootsuite costs about seven and a half times as much; at twenty channels with three people, about twenty-five times. Preflight's plans are on the pricing page.
    • It checks first. Instagram's 30 hashtags and JPEG-only pictures, TikTok's 23 to 60 fps and 360 to 4,096 pixels, Threads' 500 bytes, YouTube's 5,000 bytes; refused in the composer, not reported later. The full list is on the limits page.
    • Approvals at $24. Hootsuite puts approval workflows on Advanced; a two-person studio pays $798 a month for that. Preflight sends the client a link.
    • Community networks. Discord webhooks with forum threads, Telegram bots with albums, Mastodon on any instance, Tumblr.
    • API and MCP for $24, documented on the documentation page; Hootsuite's API is a partner conversation.
    • Big video, up to 2 GB per file with resumable uploads, and YouTube videos published by YouTube at the minute.

    What they share

A calendar, a queue, drafts, per-network captions, best-time suggestions, first comments, hashtag suggestions, analytics with exportable reports, Bluesky and Threads, and a 14-day trial.

    Who should choose which

Choose Hootsuite if listening or a shared inbox with assignment is the job, if your organisation needs SSO and roles, or if the budget is a department's rather than a person's.

Choose Preflight if you publish to eight channels or more on a small team, need a client to approve posts without a $399 seat, post to Discord or Telegram, or want posts validated before they go.

Figures from hootsuite.com/plans and price trackers on 6 October 2026. Hootsuite's plan page states "per user, billed annually" and leaves the monthly rate to the checkout.
