ChatGPT can schedule and publish social media posts when you connect it to Preflight's MCP server at https://preflight.social/mcp. Once connected, you can ask ChatGPT to write captions, check them against the rules of YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Threads, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Bluesky, Mastodon, Telegram, Discord and Tumblr, schedule them, and report how they did. Every post ChatGPT creates goes through the same checks as one written by hand in Preflight, so a post a network would refuse is stopped before it is sent, with the reason in plain words.
Set it up
- Connect your networks in Preflight first. Create a free Preflight account and connect the accounts you post to under Settings. Each network asks you to sign in on its own page, which ChatGPT cannot do for you. Skip this and ChatGPT can only tell you there is nothing to post to; if you sign up on the way from ChatGPT, the consent screen says so and links to the page.
- Add Preflight to ChatGPT as a custom MCP server. OpenAI's page on connecting a remote MCP server walks through it: add a custom server, give it a name such as Preflight, and enter
https://preflight.social/mcp, including the/mcppath. Preflight signs in with OAuth, so no key is needed. Whether your plan and workspace role may add custom servers, and whether developer mode has to be on, is set by OpenAI and your workspace admin, and the menu names move often, so follow OpenAI's page if a label below has changed. - Sign in and allow. ChatGPT sends you to Preflight to sign in and to a consent screen that lists in plain words what ChatGPT may do. Pick the workspace if you have more than one, press Allow, then start a new chat and select Preflight.
Ask "Which of my channels are connected?" first. If the answer lists your accounts, everything works.
What ChatGPT can do with it
The server has 29 tools, the same set Claude and other assistants get.
- Draft captions per network and save them as drafts with
draft_post. Drafts never go out on their own. - Check a post with
validate_post: text length the way each network counts it, image and video format, video length and frame rate, required settings such as a TikTok privacy level or a Pinterest board, and how many posts the plan has left. Nothing is created. - Schedule or publish with
create_post: at a time, into your queue or now, to several networks at once with different text where needed. - Manage what is waiting or failed with
list_posts,update_post,delete_postandretry_post. - Learn from results with
post_performance,analytics_summaryandlist_comments.
Prompts to start with
List my connected channels and tell me when each one's queue posts next.
Turn this product update into a LinkedIn post, a Threads post and a Bluesky post under 300 characters. Save them as drafts only.
Validate the Bluesky draft against every channel and tell me what would fail.
Schedule the drafts for Tuesday at 9am New York time. Ask me before anything is published now.
Safety rules that do not depend on the model
- Publishing is a separate permission on the consent screen. Without it ChatGPT can draft and check but not put anything live.
- Publishing immediately needs your confirmation.
create_postrefuses to publish now unless ChatGPT says you agreed, and deleting needs the same. - A retry never posts twice. Every
create_postcarries an idempotency key, and a repeat returns the first post. - Client approval holds. A post waiting for a client's approval is not published at its time, whoever wrote it.
You can disconnect ChatGPT in Preflight's Settings at any time.
Differences from Claude
The tools are the same. Two things differ. Inside ChatGPT, Preflight's answers leave out plans, prices and upgrade links: when a plan limit stops a post, ChatGPT is told the limit and pointed to the pricing page, and plan changes happen on preflight.social. And ChatGPT adds Preflight as a custom server with the URL, where Claude also has it in its connectors directory.
What it cannot do
- Connect social accounts. That happens in Preflight, through each network's own sign-in.
- Post to X or LinkedIn Company Pages. Preflight does not publish to X, and LinkedIn means personal profiles until LinkedIn approves Pages access; see LinkedIn.
- Send client approval links or change queue times. Those stay in the app.
- Go past the plan. Each channel a post goes to is one publish, and ChatGPT is told when the month's allowance is used up.
What it costs
The MCP server is included in every Preflight plan, Free too: 3 channels and 20 posts a month to try it with. ChatGPT is your own OpenAI subscription. The guide to scheduling with Claude and ChatGPT covers both assistants in more depth, and the MCP docs list every tool.
Questions people ask
- Can ChatGPT post to Instagram or TikTok?
- Yes, through Preflight. Add https://preflight.social/mcp to ChatGPT as a custom MCP server and sign in; ChatGPT can then check and schedule posts to Instagram, TikTok and ten other networks connected in your Preflight workspace. It cannot connect the accounts itself.
- Why does ChatGPT say I have no channels?
- Nothing is connected in your Preflight workspace yet. Open Settings in Preflight, connect your social accounts through each network's sign-in, then ask ChatGPT again.
- Do I need a paid ChatGPT plan?
- Which ChatGPT plans and workspace roles may add a custom MCP server is decided by OpenAI and can change, so check OpenAI's page on connecting a remote MCP server. On the Preflight side the server is included in every plan, Free too.
- Is it safe to let ChatGPT publish?
- Publishing is a separate permission you can leave off, publishing immediately needs an explicit confirmation, a retried request cannot post twice, and posts waiting for client approval never go out. Review the captions it writes before they are scheduled.
