You can automate social media posting in n8n with the Preflight node, which is a verified community node: it checks a post against each network's rules, then schedules, queues or publishes it to twelve networks, and a trigger starts a workflow when a post goes live or fails. The point of using it is the step before posting, validation inside the workflow, because an automation fails where nobody is watching. This page shows a workflow that holds up, in the order you would build it.
A workflow that does not break
- A source. A new row in a sheet, a new article in an RSS feed, a page in a Notion database or a form submission.
- A caption. Write it by hand or have an AI step draft it.
- Preflight, Post, Validate. It dry-runs the post against every chosen network and returns
ok, the number of errors and warnings and each issue as a plain sentence, such as "Text is 385 characters; Bluesky allows 300." - If `ok` is true, Post, Create. Save a draft, schedule a time, add to the queue or publish. Otherwise send the issues where a person will read them: back into the sheet row, to Slack, or to a second AI step that shortens the caption.
- Preflight Trigger. Start a second workflow on
post.failedand alert somebody with the network, the reason and whether a retry can work.
Make it safe to run twice
Automations retry, and a retry through an API with no guard publishes twice. The node protects the workflow in four ways:
- Idempotency keys. Every Create sends one. The same key returns the first post, and the same key with different text is refused. Build it from the article link or the row and a hash of the text.
- Publish Now has to be confirmed, so a test run cannot post by accident.
- No time in the past. A time more than five minutes ago is refused.
- Deliveries carry an ID, so a trigger can ignore a repeat.
Keys with the least power
Create an API key in Preflight, where every plan has API access, the free one included. A key with only posts:read and posts:write can save drafts but can never publish, which is a good start for a workflow someone else wrote. Add posts:publish only for workflows that should go live.
Install it
In n8n open the nodes panel, search for Preflight and choose Install node, on n8n Cloud or self-hosted, or install the package n8n-nodes-preflight from Settings, Community Nodes. Without the node, the REST API works from the HTTP Request node, and the MCP server works from an AI Agent. The node's page is the n8n integration, with five templates, and webhooks are in the webhook documentation.
Which networks
YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Threads, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Bluesky, Mastodon, Telegram, Discord and Tumblr. The rules each one enforces are on the limits page, and the free plan includes three channels.
Based on the node's README and the n8n integration page of this site; n8n verified the node on 27 October 2026.
Questions people ask
- How do I automate social media posting in n8n?
- Install the Preflight community node, create an API key, and build a workflow that validates a post and then creates it, scheduled, queued or published, for any of twelve networks.
- Can n8n post to Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn from one workflow?
- Yes. The Preflight node sends one post to the networks you choose, after validating it against each network's rules.
- How do I stop an n8n workflow from posting twice?
- The node sends an idempotency key with every post. The same key returns the first post instead of creating a second.
- Does the Preflight n8n node cost anything?
- The node is free to install. It needs a Preflight API key, and every Preflight plan has API access, the free plan included.
