Network rules

    Social network rules tracker

A dated record of changes to what social networks and their APIs allow, limited to what affects a tool that schedules posts: version deadlines, size and link limits, new publishing fields, and places where a network's own documents disagree. Every record links to the official page it was read on. Last updated 10 October 2026; 20 records.

    Dated deadlines

Dates after 10 October 2026 on which a version or a rule stops working, soonest first.

    1. LinkedInDeadline

LinkedIn API version 202510 is sunset on 15 October 2026

LinkedIn's deprecation notice says Marketing version 202510 will be sunset on October 15, 2026 and tells developers to move to a newer versioned API.

What it means for a scheduler. A tool still sending LinkedIn-Version 202510 has to move before that day. Preflight sends 202607, so it is not affected.

Source: LinkedIn Marketing API migrations, read 10 October 2026.

    2. Meta (Facebook and Instagram)Deadline

Graph API v21.0 is available until 21 January 2027

      Meta lists v21.0 (introduced October 2, 2024) as available until January 21, 2027. v22.0 follows on May 20, 2027 and v23.0 on October 8, 2027.

What it means for a scheduler. A tool still calling v21.0 or older has to move. Preflight calls v26.0 for Facebook and Instagram, so this date does not touch it.

Source: Graph API changelog, read 10 October 2026.

    3. LinkedInDeadline

LinkedIn API version 202607 stops working on 15 July 2027

LinkedIn lists Marketing API version 202607 with a sunset date of July 15, 2027. Every monthly version is retired about a year after it ships.

What it means for a scheduler. Preflight sends LinkedIn-Version 202607 today. It has to move to a newer version before this date, and the daily source check shows the table when a newer one appears.

    Changes and clarifications

Newest first, grouped by the month of the date. The date is when the rule changed or took effect; where the network does not say, it is the day we read the document.

    October 2026

    1. InstagramConflict in the docs

Instagram publishing guide states the daily limit as 100 and as 50

As documented on 10 October 2026, the guide says accounts are limited to 100 API-published posts in a moving 24 hours, and says elsewhere that accounts are limited to 50 published posts in 24 hours. Meta does not say which applies.

What it means for a scheduler. A scheduler cannot trust either number alone. Preflight treats 50 as the working limit, as the lower of the two, and our guide explains how to read the live figure from the content_publishing_limit endpoint.

Source: Instagram content publishing, read 10 October 2026.

    2. TikTokClarification

TikTok: content from an unaudited app is private until the app passes an audit

As documented on 10 October 2026, TikTok restricts all content posted by unaudited clients to private viewing, and a direct post from such a client to a public account is blocked at the init call.

What it means for a scheduler. A tool that has not passed TikTok's audit cannot publish publicly for anyone. When TikTok refuses a post for this reason, Preflight shows the plain explanation instead of the raw error code.

    September 2026

    1. Meta (Facebook and Instagram)Change

Graph API v20.0 reached the end of its availability on 24 September 2026

      Meta's version table lists v20.0 (introduced May 21, 2024) as available until September 24, 2026. v21.0 is next, until January 21, 2027.

What it means for a scheduler. Preflight has called v26.0 for Facebook and Instagram since 5 October 2026, so nothing changed for posts sent through it.

Source: Graph API changelog, read 10 October 2026.

    2. YouTubeChange

YouTube raises the thumbnail upload limit from 2 MB to 50 MB

The Data API revision history says the maximum file size for uploaded thumbnails (thumbnails.set) and playlist images (playlistImages.insert) increased from 2 MB to 50 MB.

What it means for a scheduler. Large custom thumbnails no longer have to be shrunk to fit. Preflight does not resize them on its own: it sends a thumbnail as uploaded and skips anything over its own 32 MB read limit.

Source: YouTube Data API revision history, read 10 October 2026.

    August 2026

    1. BlueskyChange

Bluesky raises the video embed limit from 100 MB to 300 MB

The app.bsky.embed.video lexicon now sets the video blob maxSize to 300,000,000 bytes and describes it as "formerly limited to 100mb". The change landed in the atproto repository on August 11, 2026.

What it means for a scheduler. Preflight still checks video against 100 MB, which is stricter than the schema now is, so it can refuse a file Bluesky would take.

    July 2026

    1. Meta (Facebook and Instagram)Change

      Graph API v26.0 released

Meta lists v26.0 as the latest Graph API version, introduced July 29, 2026, with no end date yet. v25.0 is available until July 29, 2028.

What it means for a scheduler. Preflight moved all Facebook and Instagram calls to v26.0 on 5 October 2026 and reviewed the v22 to v26 changes for anything it uses.

    June 2026

    1. InstagramChange

Instagram API can set the AI-generated label when publishing

The Instagram Platform changelog adds an is_ai_generated parameter to the content publishing API to disclose AI-generated content at publish time. For a carousel it is set on the carousel container only.

What it means for a scheduler. A scheduler can offer the label before the post goes out. Preflight does not send this field yet, so the label has to be set in the Instagram app.

Source: Instagram Platform changelog, read 10 October 2026.

    2. YouTubeChange

YouTube Data API moves to granular quota buckets

From June 1, 2026, calls to videos.insert and search.list are charged to their own quota buckets; all other methods stay in the existing bucket. The entry gives no numbers and points to the Google Cloud Console for the limits.

What it means for a scheduler. Uploads no longer share a quota with search, so the figure that limits uploads is now read in the console rather than in the documentation. When YouTube refuses a call for quota, Preflight tells the user how long until it resets.

    April 2026

    1. XChange

X API pricing: $0.015 per post, $0.20 for a post that contains a link

X's changelog says that from April 20, 2026 creating a post through POST /2/tweets costs $0.015, and a post containing a URL costs $0.20. Following, likes and quote-posts were removed from the self-serve tiers.

What it means for a scheduler. On X the tool pays for every post, and more for links, so cost per post is part of the price of offering X. X is not among the twelve networks Preflight publishes to today.

Source: X API changelog, read 10 October 2026.

    2. BlueskyChange

Bluesky raises the image limit from 1 MB to 2 MB

The app.bsky.embed.images lexicon sets the image blob maxSize to 2,000,000 bytes and describes it as "May be up to 2 MB, formerly limited to 1 MB". The commit is dated April 8, 2026.

What it means for a scheduler. Pictures between 1 and 2 MB no longer need compressing. Preflight checks images against 2,000,000 bytes.

Source: atproto lexicon: app.bsky.embed.images, read 10 October 2026.

    February 2026

    1. XChange

X restricts programmatic replies to accounts that summoned the sender

Per X's changelog, replies sent through POST /2/tweets are allowed only when the original author summoned the replier by @mentioning the account or quoting one of its posts. Further limits apply to programmatic @mentions and quotes. It affects the self-serve tiers.

What it means for a scheduler. Automated replies to people who did not ask for them are no longer possible through the self-serve API. Scheduled posts of your own are not affected. X is not among the networks Preflight publishes to today.

Source: X API changelog, read 10 October 2026.

    2. Meta (Facebook and Instagram)Change

Meta Platform Terms show "Last updated February 3, 2026"

The page of the Meta Platform Terms, which bind anyone building an app on Meta's developer platform, carries the date February 3, 2026. Meta does not publish a list of what changed.

What it means for a scheduler. We read the Platform Terms and the Developer Policies on 8 October 2026; none of them prohibits scheduling by name. The summary is in our article on Meta's rules for schedulers and is not legal advice.

Source: Meta Platform Terms, read 10 October 2026.

    December 2025

    1. ThreadsChange

The Threads changelog announced on December 8, 2025 that posts with more than 5 links would fail from December 22, 2025. The API answers with THREADS_API__LINK_LIMIT_EXCEEDED.

What it means for a scheduler. A long caption full of links now fails instead of posting. Preflight counts the links in a Threads post and stops it before it is sent.

Source: Threads API changelog, read 10 October 2026.

    2. YouTubeChange

YouTube lowers the documented quota cost of a video upload from 1,600 to 100 units

The revision history reflects a change in the quota cost of a video upload from about 1,600 units to about 100 units, and says the documentation and the quota calculator were updated to match.

What it means for a scheduler. The same daily quota covers about sixteen times as many uploads. Preflight keeps no upload counter of its own; it reads YouTube's refusal and says when the quota resets (midnight Pacific time).

Source: YouTube Data API revision history, read 10 October 2026.

    3. InstagramChange

Instagram API can publish Trial Reels

The Instagram Platform changelog of December 3, 2025 adds an optional trial_params field to the create-media endpoint for creating and publishing Trial Reels, and a new instagram_manage_contents permission for deleting media.

What it means for a scheduler. A scheduler can queue a reel that is shown to non-followers first. Preflight offers it as an Instagram reel option and sends trial_params with the graduation strategy chosen.

Source: Instagram Platform changelog, read 10 October 2026.

    April 2024

    1. FacebookChange

Meta removes the Groups API and the publish_to_groups permission

The v19.0 changelog deprecated the Groups API permissions and features, including publish_to_groups, and says they would be removed April 22, 2024. Group admins also lost the ability to install apps on a group.

What it means for a scheduler. No third-party scheduler can post to a Facebook group through the API since that date. Preflight publishes to Pages only and does not offer groups.

Source: Graph API changelog, version 19.0, read 10 October 2026.

    July 2020

    1. YouTubeClarification

YouTube: uploads from unverified API projects created after 28 July 2020 are private

The revision history says videos uploaded with videos.insert from API projects created after July 28, 2020 are restricted to private viewing until the project passes an audit.

What it means for a scheduler. A scheduler built on a new, unaudited project cannot publish public YouTube videos at all. This is why YouTube access is something a tool has to pass an audit for, not a setting the user controls.

Source: YouTube Data API revision history, read 10 October 2026.

    How we watch

Preflight reads 13 official pages and feeds once a day, one or more for each network, and compares each with the day before. A difference is only a prompt to look. A person reads the page, decides whether it matters to a scheduling tool, and only then is a record written here. That makes the tracker accurate and not instant: a change can be published days before it appears, and we do not record every line a network changes. It is not legal advice, and the network's own document always decides.

    Use it

Have these rules checked on every post

    Questions

    How often is it updated?
The sources are read once a day. A line is added here only after a person has read the official page and confirmed what it says, so a change can appear days after the network published it. The last record was added on 10 October 2026.
Where does the data come from?
Only from the networks' own documents: API changelogs, version tables, schemas and policy pages. Each record links to the page it was read on and says when we read it. Where a network does not date a rule, the record says it is documented as of the day we read it.
    Can I subscribe?
Yes. The tracker is an Atom feed at /rules/tracker/feed.xml, which any feed reader can follow. Each record is one entry that links back to its anchor on this page.
Does a change here change Preflight's checks?
Not by itself. A record says what the network now says; the checks in Preflight change when the rule has been tested against the real API and the code is updated. Each record's "What it means for a scheduler" line says where Preflight stands today.

Write it once. Let the rules be our problem.

Preflight checks every post against each network's rules before it leaves, then publishes it to twelve networks. Free plan, no card.
