TikTok has its own scheduler in TikTok Studio on a computer, and tools can schedule too, because a tool holds the video and posts it at the time you chose through TikTok's Content Posting API. That API has no scheduling of its own: it offers a direct post and an upload to the creator's inbox, and nothing else. This page explains the two routes, what each can do, and why a scheduled video sometimes turns up as "only me".
The two ways to schedule a TikTok
| TikTok Studio (native) | A scheduler through the API | |
|---|---|---|
| Where | TikTok Studio on a computer | The tool's own calendar, from a computer or a phone |
| Accounts | One at a time | Several accounts and other networks together |
| How far ahead | TikTok's window has changed: 10 days when the feature launched, 30 in newer documentation | Any date; the tool holds the video |
| Visibility | The one you choose | The one you choose, if the tool is audited |
| Sounds from TikTok's library | Not verified here | Not through the API; an upload to your inbox lets you add one in the app |
TikTok's own help article on scheduling could not be read when this page was written, so the native window is shown as unsettled: check the date picker in TikTok Studio for the number your account gets.
What the Content Posting API can and cannot do
TikTok's documentation describes two ways to post, and neither is scheduling:
- Direct Post. The tool uploads the video, or photos, and publishes it straight away with the privacy level the creator is allowed.
- Upload to inbox. The video lands in the creator's TikTok inbox and the creator has to open the notification and finish the post in the app, which is where the sound picker and effects are.
A scheduler therefore keeps the file and calls Direct Post at the minute you chose, or calls the inbox upload and leaves the finishing to you. The inbox route is the one to use for a video that needs a trending sound, because a Direct Post carries the video's own audio only.
Why a scheduled TikTok is private
TikTok audits every integration. The documentation says content posted by unaudited clients is restricted to private viewing mode, which is the cause of most "my scheduled TikTok is only me" reports. Preflight is audited, so it can publish at the visibility you choose; a tool you host yourself has to pass the audit under your own name. Before each direct post the API also reports the creator's own settings, such as which privacy levels they may use and whether comments, duet and stitch are turned off, and a post cannot override them.
Scheduling a TikTok from a phone
The native scheduler is in TikTok Studio on a computer. A tool's calendar works in a browser on a phone, and Preflight installs to the home screen. The video has to meet TikTok's technical rules: between 23 and 60 frames per second and 360 to 4,096 pixels on a side, which Preflight checks while you pick the file. See TikTok's limits and scheduling to TikTok. If a post fails, the TikTok API errors explain the codes.
TikTok's Content Posting API documentation (updated August 2026) read on 31 October 2026. TikTok's Help Center article on scheduling was not reachable, so the native window is not stated as a single number.
Questions people ask
- Can you schedule TikTok posts?
- Yes. TikTok Studio on a computer can schedule a video, and a scheduler can schedule through the Content Posting API by holding the video and posting at the chosen time.
- Can you schedule TikTok drafts?
- TikTok's API can upload a video to the creator's inbox for finishing in the app. The documentation describes no setting that schedules an existing draft, so check TikTok Studio for the native option.
- How do you schedule TikTok posts on a phone?
- The native scheduler is in TikTok Studio on a computer. A scheduler with a web app, Preflight included, lets you pick the time from a phone and posts through the API.
- Why does my scheduled TikTok post as private?
- TikTok restricts content posted by an unaudited app to private viewing. An audited tool such as Preflight can post at the visibility you choose, as long as that creator's account allows it.
- Can the TikTok API schedule a post?
- No. The Content Posting API offers Direct Post and upload to inbox, and neither takes a publish time, so a scheduler holds the video and posts at the time.
