Schedule Threads posts: app and tools

Threads can schedule posts itself, reported up to 75 days ahead. What the app does, the 500-byte and 5-link rules, and how to schedule with Preflight.

Threads can schedule a post itself. Meta rolled the option out in January 2025, and press reports at the time gave the window as up to 75 days ahead, with the option in the three-dot menu of the composer and the scheduled posts kept in drafts. Replies cannot be scheduled. We could not read a Meta help page for this, so the figures here are as reported and worth checking in your own app. A scheduler adds what the app does not: the same post to other networks, a client's approval, and a checked count before anything goes out.

The counting rule that a scheduler checks for you

A Threads post allows 500 characters, but an emoji counts as its UTF-8 bytes, which is four for most emoji. A post of 490 characters with four emoji is 502 and is refused. A post can also hold at most five links. The app shows the count as you type, while a tool that only counts characters will let the post be scheduled and fail at the minute. Preflight counts emoji by the byte for Threads, so the number beside the box is the one the API sees. The rest is on the Threads limits page and scheduling to Threads.

Text500 characters, emoji by the byte
PicturesUp to 20 in a carousel
VideoMP4 or MOV, up to 1 GB and 5 minutes

Scheduling a Threads post in Preflight

    1. Connect the Threads account with its Meta login.
    2. Write the post and tick Threads. Add Instagram, Bluesky or any other network to send the same text at the same minute.
    3. Read the counter. Over the limit, too many links or a picture outside the accepted size is flagged in the composer.
    4. Pick a minute or the next free slot in the queue.

Threads is one channel on any plan, the free one included, and the same post can be created through the API. A thread of several parts is written in the same composer, one part per box. Posting to Threads and Bluesky together covers the shared text.

    Which route to pick

    • One Threads account, a few posts: the app's own scheduler.
    • Several networks, a team, or a count that must be right before the minute: a scheduler.

Native scheduling is as reported by the press in January 2025 and not confirmed from a Meta help page. API limits are from the Threads page on this site, checked 1 November 2026.

    Questions people ask

Can you schedule posts on Threads?
Yes. Meta added scheduling in January 2025. It is in the three-dot menu of the composer, and scheduled posts wait in drafts. Replies cannot be scheduled.
How far ahead can you schedule a Threads post?
Press reports from January 2025 give 75 days. We could not confirm it from a Meta help page, so check your own app.
Where do I find my scheduled Threads posts?
In the drafts folder, according to the reports, where the time or text can be changed or the post deleted.
Why was my scheduled Threads post refused?
The usual causes are the 500-character limit, where an emoji counts as four, and the limit of five links. Preflight shows both counts in the composer.

Write it once. Let the rules be our problem.

Preflight checks every post against each network's rules before it leaves, then publishes it to twelve networks. Free plan, no card.
