Schedule Instagram stories: what is possible

Schedule Instagram stories with Business Suite or a tool. The API sends one picture or a 3 to 60 second video, with no caption and no stickers.

You can schedule an Instagram story, from a business or creator account, in two ways: with Meta Business Suite, which guides describe as the native route, or with a scheduler that uses Instagram's publishing API. The two do not have the same options. A story from the API is one picture or one video of 3 to 60 seconds, up to 100 MB, with no caption and none of the interactive stickers.

What the API allows for a story

    Story through the API
    ContentOne picture or one video
Video3 to 60 seconds, up to 100 MB
    CaptionNone
    CarouselNo
Links, stickers, polls, music, mentionsNot sent by the API

These are the figures on the Instagram scheduling page and the Instagram limits, measured against Instagram's API.

    What this means in practice

    • Add the stickers by hand or skip them. A story made in the app can carry a link sticker or a poll. A story from a tool is the plain media, so an interactive story has to be posted in the app.
    • Prepare the picture for 9:16. A story is shown full screen, and a picture in another ratio is shown with bars or cropped.
    • A story is gone after 24 hours. It does not stay on the profile unless it is saved to a highlight, so a scheduled story is best for timed announcements.

    The Business Suite route

Guides report that Meta Business Suite can schedule stories for a business or creator account that is linked to a Facebook Page, one story at a time, and that a scheduled story can be edited or deleted before it goes out. We could not read Meta's own help page, and one guide quotes a window of 20 minutes to 29 days that no second source repeated, so check the limits in your own account.

    Scheduling a story in Preflight

    1. Connect an Instagram Business account through Facebook Login.
    2. Write the post, add one picture or video and choose Story as the format for the Instagram target.
    3. Read the checks: the duration, the size and the format are measured before upload.
    4. Pick a fixed minute or the next free slot and schedule.

Instagram is one channel on every plan, the free one included, and the same story can be created with the API. Feed posts and Reels have their own rules on the same page.

    Which route to pick

    • An interactive story with stickers: post it in the app.
    • A plain picture or video story at a set time, or several networks at once: a scheduler.

API figures are from Instagram's publishing API as described on the Instagram scheduling page, checked 1 November 2026. The Business Suite route is as reported by guides and not confirmed from Meta's help pages.

Write it once. Let the rules be our problem.

Preflight checks every post against each network's rules before it leaves, then publishes it to twelve networks. Free plan, no card.
