How to schedule Instagram Reels: app, API and limits

Schedule an Instagram Reel in the app, 30 days ahead and 25 a day, or by API. File limits, collabs and why a Reel is refused.

Yes, you can schedule an Instagram Reel. Instagram schedules it itself from a public account in the app, up to 30 days ahead and 25 posts a day, and a tool can schedule it through the publishing API from a business account. Instagram's own help page also says the scheduled option is not compatible with product tags, collabs, sponsored posts or fundraisers. This page gives the Reel's requirements, so that the file is accepted at the minute.

What the API accepts for a Reel

A 120 fps clip from a phone is the usual cause of a refusal, since it is outside 23 to 60. The figures are on the Instagram Reel size page and the Instagram limits, and a file can be tested locally in the video checker.

    Scheduling a Reel in Preflight

    1. Connect an Instagram Business account.
    2. Write the caption, up to 2,200 characters and 30 hashtags, and add the video.
    3. Choose Reel, pick a cover frame and decide on share to feed.
    4. Read the checks: length, frame rate and size are measured before upload.
    5. Choose a minute or the next slot and schedule.

The same vertical video can go to TikTok and YouTube Shorts in one step, see one vertical video for Reels, Shorts and TikTok. Instagram is one channel on every plan. More on the account and the API is on scheduling to Instagram, and the desktop route is in scheduling Instagram posts on desktop.

    Which route to pick

    • One public account, a Reel with no collab or product tag: the app's own scheduler is free and enough.
    • A collab, several networks at one minute, a client's approval, or posting from a computer without the phone: a scheduler. The Reel is checked before it is uploaded, and an approval link needs no account for the client.

What a scheduled Reel cannot carry

Preflight sends the video, the caption, the cover and the share-to-feed choice. Product tags, location tags and music are not sent yet, and stickers are not part of a Reel from the API, so a Reel that depends on them is best made and posted in the app.

Native scheduling limits are from the Instagram Help Center, read on 31 October 2026. API figures are from the Instagram scheduling and limits pages on this site.

    Questions people ask

    Can you schedule Instagram Reels?
Yes. Instagram schedules Reels in the app from a public account, up to 30 days ahead, and a scheduler can do it through the API from a business account.
How many Reels can I schedule on Instagram?
The app allows 25 scheduled posts a day, Reels included. The API has its own daily cap, 100 in 24 hours when read on 30 October 2026.
Can I schedule a Reel with collaborators?
Instagram's help says scheduling in the app is not compatible with collabs. Preflight sends collaborators with a scheduled Reel through the API.
Why was my scheduled Reel refused?
The common reasons are a frame rate outside 23 to 60, a length outside 3 seconds to 15 minutes, or a file over 300 MB. Preflight checks all three before it uploads anything.

Write it once. Let the rules be our problem.

Preflight checks every post against each network's rules before it leaves, then publishes it to twelve networks. Free plan, no card.
