Schedule Bluesky posts: how it works

Bluesky has no scheduler in its app. How a tool holds and sends posts, app passwords, the 300-grapheme limit, and how to schedule one for free.

Bluesky has no scheduler of its own. The app posts at once, and the only thing it keeps for later is a draft on your device. So to have a post go out at nine tomorrow you need a tool that holds the post and sends it at the time you chose. This page shows what such a tool has to get right on Bluesky and how to set it up in Preflight.

Why a tool is the only way

The AT Protocol that Bluesky runs on is open, and a client can create a post whenever it likes. The official app has no schedule button, so any scheduled post is created by a tool, at the minute, through your account. That has one practical consequence: the connection has to be valid at that minute, and a revoked app password means the post does not go out.

    How a scheduler connects

A scheduler never gets your Bluesky password. In *Settings, Privacy and Security, App Passwords* you create a password only for the tool, name it and paste it once. It can be revoked on its own and cannot change your password or email. Preflight connects this way, and a custom domain handle works the same as a .bsky.social one.

What a Bluesky post can hold

    Limit
    Text300 graphemes and 3,000 bytes
Pictures4 per post, up to 2 MB each, alt text on each
Video1 per post, MP4, up to 100 MB and 3 minutes, not together with pictures
Links, mentions, hashtagsMarked by the tool as facets with byte offsets
EditingNot possible; delete and post again

A tool that marks only links posts hashtags and @mentions as plain text nobody can tap. Preflight marks all three. The full figures are on the Bluesky limits page and the walkthrough on scheduling to Bluesky.

Scheduling a Bluesky post in Preflight

    1. Create an app password and connect the account.
    2. Write the post and tick Bluesky. Adding Threads, Mastodon or Instagram sends the same post to them at the same minute.
    3. Check the counter: 300 graphemes for Bluesky, where a flag emoji is one.
    4. Choose the minute or the next free slot of the queue and schedule.

Bluesky is one channel, and the free plan has three. A thread of several parts is written one part per box, and the API takes the same post. For a post that goes to both Threads and Bluesky, see posting to Threads and Bluesky.

    Free options

Several schedulers include Bluesky on a free plan, and Preflight's does too. The comparison of free schedulers lists what each free plan includes.

Bluesky has no native scheduling in the official app, as reported by tools and guides in 2026 and consistent with the Bluesky page on this site. Limits are from the AT Protocol as documented there, checked 1 November 2026.

    Questions people ask

Can you schedule posts on Bluesky?
Not in the official app, which posts at once. A scheduling tool can hold the post and publish it at the time you chose.
How can I schedule Bluesky posts for free?
Use a scheduler with a free plan. Preflight's free plan includes three channels, and Bluesky is one of the twelve networks.
Is it safe to give a scheduler access to my Bluesky account?
It connects with an app password that you create for it and can revoke on its own. The password cannot change your account password or email.
How long can a scheduled Bluesky post be?
300 graphemes, where a flag emoji counts as one, and 3,000 bytes. Links count their full length.

Write it once. Let the rules be our problem.

Preflight checks every post against each network's rules before it leaves, then publishes it to twelve networks. Free plan, no card.
