There is no number of Instagram posts a day that Instagram recommends, and no network publishes data that proves one count grows an account faster. What there is are hard limits: the app lets you schedule 25 posts a day, and the publishing API for tools allows a daily cap of 100 in 24 hours, as read on 30 October 2026. So the useful question is how many posts you can keep up with and still make well, and this page gives the limits, a way to decide and a way to hold the rhythm.
The limits
| Limit | |
|---|---|
| Scheduling in the Instagram app | 25 posts a day, up to 30 days ahead |
| Publishing through the API | 100 posts in 24 hours; a carousel counts as one post |
| Carousel | Up to 20 items (measured 30 October 2026) |
| Hashtags in one caption | 30 through the API, 5 in the app |
The cap is per account, so it matters for a feed that is imported in bulk and not for a normal schedule. More on each figure is on the Instagram limits page and in Instagram carousel posts.
How to decide how often to post
- Count the time one good post takes, from idea to scheduled, including the picture or video.
- Choose a number you can keep for three months, not for a week. A rhythm you drop after two weeks does less than a smaller one you keep.
- Vary the format before you raise the count. A Reel, a carousel and a picture do different jobs, and one of each a week is a different plan from three pictures.
- Read your own insights. Compare what happened after a week of two posts and a week of four. The result is true for your account and not for anyone else's.
- Change one thing at a time, or you will not know which change did it.
This is advice and not a measured rule; Instagram does not say that a count is better than another.
Keeping the rhythm
- Batch the work. Write and schedule a week of posts at once, so a busy day does not empty the feed.
- Use a queue. In Preflight a channel has a queue, and a post without a time takes the next free slot.
- Check each post before it is scheduled. The composer counts the caption and the hashtags and measures the pictures and videos, so a post does not fail at the minute.
- Stay below the caps by spreading imports over days.
Scheduling works on every plan, the free one included, and the API takes the same posts. If one post has to go to several networks at once, see one vertical video for Reels, Shorts and TikTok.
Limits are from the Instagram Help Center and from Instagram's API as measured on 30 October 2026. The advice on frequency is editorial and not a rule of Instagram.
